Partner S- Single/Widowed Women’s Ministry & Slum Area Advocate
Partner S is someone we’ve known and been blessed by for many years. At the beginning of her ministry, she would take daily walks through the neighborhoods near her home and look for new houses under construction. Her search was for the women who worked in these sites, hauling sand and concrete, laying bricks and tiles, and cleaning up construction materials. She knew that these women were extremely poor, on the outskirts of society in slum areas, and usually had husbands who stayed abroad, squandered money, or who had passed away. So she sought out these women because she wanted them to know that they were loved and seen.
In her ministry among the construction women, she became aware of another group of people in need…their young children. The kids who were too young to go to school, oftentimes had nowhere to go while their mothers worked on site. The mothers would strap their babies to their backs as they worked. Their toddlers would be sat upon the piles of construction sand and stones for the duration of the work day. They had no other choice. That is, until Partner S.
Partner S then made it her mission to build trust with these women and bless them by caring for their children during the work day. She would bring as many young children as she could to her home every day, where she would feed them, provide toys, teach them letters and numbers, etc. The number of children grew and grew until they could no longer fit in her home. So she built a building and began a preschool. This preschool remains active to this day, some 20 years later, and her heart for widowed and single women, their children, and slum area families is as strong as ever.
Presently, we are working with Partner S to provide some play structures and equipment to a slum area as well as to their preschool. We also hope to provide education scholarships for the children in these situations. We are so excited to bring joy to these communities through Partner S, and see many more souls come to know Jesus.
